Laser Therapy

Town & Country Veterinary Hospital is pleased to announce the addition of the Companion Therapy Laser to our practice. This state-of-the-art technology is an FDA-cleared modality that reduces inflammation and results in pain reduction. Laser therapy is a clinically proven modality in both human and veterinary medicine, and is effective in treating acute pain, chronic conditions, and post-operative pain. LiteCure, the parent company of Companion, is the leader in scientific research and education. There have been thousands of studies documenting the positive effects laser light has on different types of cells, tissues and disorders.

Infrared laser therapy is safe, painless and fast. Treatments to deeper tissues are administered in 5 to 10 minutes. Typically even chronic patients exhibit improvement after 3 to 5 treatment sessions. Laser therapy utilizes the body’s own healing powers by stimulating cellular activity. Despite short treatment times, laser therapy treatments initiate a healing process that continues to actively reduce inflammation for up to 24 hours after treatment.

Veterinarians are applying this technology every day to treat patients with painful injuries or wounds in order to speed healing. Studies indicate that laser-treated wounds heal in one-third to one-half faster than the time required in normal healing. Veterinarians also use laser therapy post operatively to speed incisional wound healing. A single laser treatment is usually all that is required for post-surgical patients to reduce swelling and to speed healing. Skin wounds, abrasions, bite injuries, dermatitis and burns all respond well to laser therapy.

Laser therapy is an excellent way to assist older pets who often have aches or pains and decreased mobility. Chronic conditions and degenerative joint diseases such as arthritis, hip dysplasia and back disease respond well to laser therapy. More severe cases often require a series of treatments to realize the full benefits. Laser treatments are drug free, which is especially important with older patients who may suffer side-effects from medications.

The veterinarians at Town & Country Veterinary Hospital are very excited to offer this non-invasive, painless and side-effect free therapy for decreasing pain and increasing healing rates in their patients.
