Bailey is a 6 ½ year old chocolate lab. She has a history of chronic lameness in her hips and also some mild back pain. We initially put Bailey on a weight loss diet and started her on an anti-inflammatory as well as various pain medications and supplements. Bailey’s owner was not seeing much difference in her mobility while on her medications so she was referred to a specialist. After her exam with the specialist is was recommended that Bailey have hip replacement surgery. Her mom’s goal was to avoid surgery if possible so we decided that prior to any surgical correction we would treat Bailey with acupuncture. Both the doctors and her mom are very encouraged by Bailey’s progress so far. We will continue her acupuncture treatments and try to wean her off of many of her medications and avoid surgery.
